Happy 23rd Anniversary Father Wayne!

Congratulations Father Wayne! On May 19, 1990, Twenty-three years ago, Father Wayne was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago, and he has certainly created a legacy in the lives of all he has touched along the way.   We are blessed to have Father Wayne as our pastor and for all of the ways that he has helped us grow as a parish.

Help us keep this legacy alive.  Whether you are a long-time parishioner, a brand new parishioner or a school parent, we need your support to make this campaign a success. Father Wayne has brought us the vision, now it is our turn to give our support and be part of this legacy.  The generations that preceded us gave us much for which to be thankful.  Are you in?

To learn more about our Legacy Campaign, please contract Jennifer Cortez in the rectory office.  As always, pledge cards can be found in the vestibule of the church or in the parish office.

Glimmer Windows

Over the last several months, I have asked you often if you have you ever thought about our windows. Have you? This past week, while writing a grant to help fund our window project, I have spent a great deal of time thinking about how we are going to replace the nearly 100 year old windows in the Logan School building. This window project is the next goal of our Legacy Campaign.

Last Saturday, our school hosted its 9th Annual Glimmer Auction. This event began in 2005 as an effort to keep our school doors open. All those years ago, this event gave us a “glimmer” of hope.  And we succeeded. Our school is thriving because of this effort. In addition to raising funds for the general operations of our school, this year’s event added our window campaign to the wish list and our community came together to raise nearly $10,000.

You will be hearing – and seeing – a lot more about the windows in the coming months. It may not seem all that exciting, but remember – every dollar we receive is one step closer to reaching our goal. Join your neighbors, your friends, your fellow parents, your pew mates or your fellow alum and consider sponsoring a window. We are not just “selling” windows, we are “leaving” a legacy – and that is exciting! Are you in?

If you have questions regarding the Legacy Campaign, or if you would be interested in underwriting the cost of a window, please let me know.

Year 2 Recap

On the left of this page, you will find a link to summarize all that we, at St. John Berchmans, have accomplished as a community during Year 2 of our Legacy Campaign.  It will also update you on all of the latest financial and construction information, provide you with a recap what we have done and give you a timeline of where we are going.  I think you will be amazed at what we have accomplished.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported our Legacy Campaign in these first two years.  Because of your generosity, we have almost reached the halfway point of our financial goal.   We are still hoping for 100% participation, and do not intend to rest until we reach that mark.  I hope that all will use this Easter season to prayerfully consider what you can do to help our parish and our school.  This is our legacy; let’s make it a good one.

The End of Year 2…on to Year 3

Year 2 of our Legacy Campaign is quickly coming to an end.  We are halfway through our 4-year goal, but have not quite reached the halfway point of our $4,994,000 goal.  In the coming weeks, I will be using this space to update you on the current financial status and some future plans.  This campaign benefits us all.  Whether you are a long-time parishioner, a brand new parishioner or a school parent, we need you to be part of our legacy.  The generations that preceded us gave us much for which to be thankful.  Now it is our turn to return the favor and leave our legacy for those generations still to come.

If you have not yet paid off your Year 2 pledge yet, I hope you will do so soon.  Statements for Year 3 will be sent out in April.  If you haven’t yet pledged to our campaign, pledge cards are available in the back of the Church and in both the rectory and school offices.  If you would prefer to make your payments via credit card, debit card or electronic check, you can visit www.givecentral.org and register for the SJB Legacy Campaign (pledged) event.  There are a wide variety of payment options available.

Year 2 Ends Soon!

Year 2 of our Legacy Campaign is quickly coming to an end.  We are halfway through our 4-year goal, but have not quite reached the halfway point of our $4,994,000 goal.  We are hoping to begin work on our Logan School building soon, and need to have the money raised before the work can begin. Our campaign benefits both our church and our school buildings, so we are encouraging participation from everyone in our community.  Whether you are a long-time parishioner, a brand new parishioner or a school parent, we want you to be part of our legacy.  The generations that preceded us gave us much for which to be thankful.  Now it is our turn to return the favor and leave our legacy for those generations still to come.

If you have not yet paid off your Year 2 pledge yet, I hope you will consider doing so soon.  Statements for Year 3 will be sent out beginning in April.

Are you in?

Are you in?  As we come to the end of the first half our Legacy Campaign, we are still just short of meeting our Year 2 goal.  While we continue to research grant opportunities and other outside funding sources, it is important that we, as a community, show our commitment to this campaign.  Currently, 58% of our parish and school families have made a commitment to the Legacy Campaign.  Are you in?  We remain committed to reaching our goal of 100% participation and need your help.  Even a small monthly gift will grow over time, and will help to secure our financial future.  The more support we have within our community, the easier it is to ask others to commit to us.

If you have any questions regarding the Legacy Campaign, please contact Jennifer Cortez in the rectory office or by email at jcortez@stjohnberchmans.org.  As always, pledge cards and contribution envelopes can be found on the tables in the back of the Church.

Annual Catholic Appeal 2013

After today, the in-pew process for the 2013 Annual Catholic Appeal will be completed.  If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to make your pledge.  Pledge forms are available in the parish office, or you can visit the appeal website at www.annualcatholicappeal.com. Although we will not have the matching opportunity this year that we have had in the past, the appeal will still be part of our Legacy Campaign.  In past years, St. John Berchmans has greatly benefitted from the Annual Catholic Appeal in the receiving of both operating grants for our school and capital grants for various building projects throughout our campus, and this is our opportunity to help other parishes throughout the Archdiocese.  Additionally, all monies collected over our $20,659 goal will be returned to us and will assist our Legacy Campaign, allowing us to continue our work.

If you have any questions regarding the Legacy Campaign or the 2013 Annual Catholic Appeal, please contact Jennifer Cortez in the rectory office or by email at jcortez@stjohnberchmans.org.
